Henry Ford: "If you always do what you've always done, you will always get what you've always got."
Mary Baker Eddy wrote a few decades earlier the explanation for the Henry Ford's insight, I find: "We cannot build safely on false foundations. Truth makes a new creature, in whom old things pass away and “all things are become new.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 201) Yesterday my daughter reminded me of a comment I did make after I had started to work in the practice of Christian Science healing. She had asked me to share with her some observations, and one observation was about indecision. I was astonished to find that there is sometimes a period of indecision prior to a healing. This indecision is a mental state of a want of settled purpose and is expressed in reluctance to learn something new and be really done with the old. I know from my own life: The moment I decide to step forward, to step up mentally, is the moment of healing. Healing follows naturally as we are impelled to be lifted up. A decision has to be made, always, and sometimes the decision is made not to decide. This is most often the wrong decision. You might wonder why this is so, and I find that only spirituality has the answer. We live and move in a gigantic, wonderful system of Truth, God, which can only be felt and lived in the "yes". Truth is the biggest "yes" you can imagine, and without this "yes" nothing is accomplished. Newness is linked to the "yes" of Truth. Only the affirmative action of Truth, reflected in our own heart, is constructive and is the game changer, the Christ power, into our experience. Mary Baker Eddy shares this practical insight from her textbook "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "New thoughts are constantly obtaining the floor. These two contradictory theories — that matter is something, or that all is Mind — will dispute the ground, until one is acknowledged to be the victor. Discussing his campaign, General Grant said: “I propose to fight it out on this line, if it takes all summer.” Science says: All is Mind and Mind's idea. You must fight it out on this line. Matter can afford you no aid. (p. 492) The world deserves to get more than it has always got, and we can refuse to do nothing and be determined in a spiritually inspired way. What new thing is Truth, God, telling you to do today? Are we not all like the spring? Be surprised that will get more than you've got yesterday. A healing, for example. Comments are closed.
