If you want to become a pianist find a teacher, a piano - and start practicing. If you want to be an entrepreneur, explore the possibilities, find support, and start the work. If you want to be an artist - start being creative. If you want to explore cooking with plants only, find a cook book, get the groceries, and start experimenting. If you want to be a peacemaker, explore what peace is, find out about the sources of peace, and start making peace. If you want to find healing, get the textbook of Christian Science, take it seriously and put the counsels and healing laws into practice. You might start with the pages 327, 482, and 490 and look out for the paragraphs including the phrase "no other way" --- there is no other way of doing things, than to do them.
We live right now in the presence of good - in this very moment God is here, everywhere, and there will never be more good around to enjoy, to practice, to share than is already here. Good is God, presence, power, knowledge, action. If you cannot see or feel this, do what the rest of us does: Pray for a different perspective, listen for guidance, lift up thought to perceive the whole picture. There is always a next logical step in our experience, the wide realm of Life is providing everything from A to Z, every moment. Use it. Already Paul shared this insight with humanity: "Dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us." (from Philippians 3, NLT) I feel that this sense of action in the now, with a model in front, is the prize, Paul is writing about. It is the demonstration of divine Love, as Jesus taught it in the Sermon on the Mount: "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." (Matt. 5:7–9, KJV) Mary Baker Eddy empowers us to get going right away in her own wonderful way: "To energize wholesome spiritual warfare, to rebuke vainglory, to offset boastful emptiness, to crown patient toil, and rejoice in the spirit and power of Christian Science, we must ourselves be true. There is but one way of doing good, and that is to do it! There is but one way of being good, and that is to be good!" (Ret. 86:1) Comments are closed.
