Man is a number one. One individual soul, reflecting Soul, God, in a unique, wonderful way. One.
Mary Baker Eddy writes: "Is not a man metaphysically and mathematically number one, a unit, and therefore whole number, governed and protected by his divine Principle, God? You have simply to preserve a scientific, positive sense of unity with your divine source, and daily demonstrate this. Then you will find that one is as important a factor as duodecillions in being and doing right, and thus demonstrating deific Principle." (Pulpit and Press, p. 4) A few years ago a philosopher published a widely discussed book with the title "Who am I and if so: How many?". I was reminded about the truth of being, that man is "a whole number" this morning again, that we are only one, and was smiling that the book title. The heart needs peace as a basic nourishment, and understanding that we are one, not many, is key. One, a unique idea in the vast universe of infinite wonders, an individual, an entity. The heart needs foremost peace and a sense that we have a place in this universe, that there is the ability to cope and to move forward, that there is a joy waiting for each single one of us, in whatever circumstance we find ourselves - whether employed, retired, unemployed, with children, without children, homeless, owning a house, renting a studio apartment, occupying a space in a refugee shelter. This peace has little to do with circumstances, more with the everpresence, priceless goodness of a Love, that is always within our reach, always attentive and caring. This peace is greatly encouraged by the truth that we are only one. Not two: One f.e. feeling scared and someone someone else inside us observing this fear or trying to calm it. Not two, as in someone feeling the weight of a material body and another one trying to aspire for spiritual progress and development. Not two, one feeling that taking drugs is unavoidable while the other is ashamed of it and tries to stop it. You get the picture, we all know something about it, all the time. There is much to say and think and feel about this truth, but for now these examples should resonate with you as they do with me. This comes straight out of the Christian Science Practice. I am eternally grateful for a glimpse into the truth that we all are only one, truly only and forever only one, created by an infinite Mind and being remembered and developed every moment of our lives. Creating us to represent Truth and feel Love and be vitalized and named by Spirit. If there weren't a Mind to remember us, a Principle to store us, to know and think us, there would be no hard drive, no storage space for man, not even in a cloud. But there is a spiritual Principle uniting all, there is a Mind, and that is the best news ever. The number one is "one-derful". Comments are closed.
