The birth of Christ Jesus ended humanity's quest for the true rules of Life. Christ Jesus brought them, lived them, shared them, healed by them, and life has never been the same. When God is taken into account, the rules of the game change. With the new rules of good everybody wins (a win-win for all!), a secret, gentle power takes over, love harmonizes thoughts and bodies, days run more smoothly and life is meaningful and rich with love and unsolved glow. Nothing is overlooked and nothing insignificant. Dignity and the right to be heard are everyones basic hardware. When Christ Jesus arrived on our home planet he presented to humanity these new/old rules - bringing the good news of a very old - eternal - information that man is much more than the eye beholds: A wonderful, brilliant, safe idea of a supreme intelligent MIND with a plan - a plan of salvation, goodness and care. This time of year is a great opportunity to renew this knowledge, to get the information about God and man right, to understand the true rules of the game. I make a conscious effort to use this time to deepen my roots and sharpen my awareness of God, to learn playing by divine rules. The candles bathe all in a beautiful light, the apple and pine tree branches tell me with their savor something about the cosiness and completeness of nature, Christmas cookies taste delicious, and my world looks a little different. Our family takes the opportunity to reconsider where we stand and where we are going. Are we truly living by divine, spiritual rules? Are we giving the best we can - to ourselves, to our world? In Germany, people love the Christmas season and rejoice in a wealth of Christmas traditions. Part of it is "the Advent wreath" with four candles for each Sunday preceding Christmas and "Advent calendars". Here every day a little gift is opened, from Dec. 1 to Dec. 24. Every day a little joy to fill the waiting time for the arrival of Jesus Christ. In my family has been added one more type of "Advent calendar": The Christian Science Advent calendar. I wrote about it here. Every morning I read and explore a question from the chapter of "Recapitulation" of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. Questions like "What is substance?", "What is Life?" "Are doctrines and creeds a benefit to man?" "Will you explain sickness and show how it is to be healed?" Sounds interesting, doesn't it? The time for thinkers has come. The secret of the rules of the game has been lifted - the new/old rules are here to bless and to be blessed by. Amen! If on our daily course, our mind / Be set to hallow all we find, / New treasures still, of countless price, / God will provide for sacrifice. / Old friends, old scenes, will lovelier be, / As more of heaven in each we see; / Some softening gleam of love and prayer / Shall dawn on every cross and care. / New mercies, each returning day, / Around us hover while we pray; / Old fears are past, old sins forgiven, / New thoughts of God reveal our heaven.
