What we must face

Timeless wisdom cannot be avoided - it is here, and we either yield to its insights or suffer because we try to change the rules of the game. This has never happened and never will. Eternal law is the law.
There is a word from Jesus' teachings which is so timely for our 21st century lives, the nations we represent, the democracies we sustain with our engagement. It is good advice for anyone, from pupil to teacher, from aid worker to fiscal expert, from nurse or coach to real estate agent, senior citizen, church organist or owner of a deli:

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

This is not a warning - it is a blessing. Jesus is speaking in favor of us. He is opening up a wide path, showing us that we can do something. That something is right here to be used, our hands are never empty.
The continual wisdom gives us access to good as "1+1=2" is giving us access to arithmetics. This refreshing sobriety will calm the waves of self-condemnation and self-pity, and Mary Baker Eddy, having tested Jesus' wisdom in daily life, knows how to light a match in the dark:
"To do good to all because we love all, and to use in God's service the one talent that we all have, is our only means of adding to that talent and the best way to silence a deep discontent with our shortcomings."
I looked up the gospel of Luke as Eugene H. Peterson speaks it, where the Bible sparkles with contemporary engagement:

“Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment. Don’t condemn those who are down; that hardness can boomerang. Be easy on people; you’ll find life a lot easier. Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity.”

So why should this sound scary? Can we be up to the task? Of course we can. We must face the fact that all is Love. Does this sound scary? The rules are here - and they are in our favor.
