Days are long, years are short--- this saying has been around for quite some time. And it has never been truer, it seems. It reminds me to use opportunities in the now, and it reminds me not to push needed progress into the future... for years are indeed short in hindsight... and moments can only improved today.
God has an even bigger and more inspiring calendar than the solar year! What is a day worth spent with God? What a year? What a whole moment? "One day spent in your house, this beautiful place of worship, beats thousands spent on Greek island beaches. I’d rather scrub floors in the house of my God than be honoured as a guest in the palace of sin. All sunshine and sovereign is God, generous in gifts and glory. He doesn’t scrimp with his traveling companions. It’s smooth sailing all the way with God-of-the-Angel-Armies." (from Psalm 84, The Message) This week I found the deepest peace and joy with the empowering bible lesson on "God". In it, I found the encouraging words from Isaiah 60: 19 (NLT): “No longer will you need the sun to shine by day, nor the moon to give its light by night, for the Lord your God will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory..." This is what I endeavoured to really embrace. Live in God's light, and in this light alone. Be available to see God everywhere. Be alert to thought. Move beyond conventional definitions of day to God's day. Spend the day in God's presence. Count only unfolding good as worthy of attention. This prayer transformed itself into inner peace and joy and the empowerment to let go, to put my own needs behind the needs of others --- and see them met as well. Effects of an accident that happened a week ago were much easier to bear and the much needed healing took a big leap forward --- with a clearer understanding of transformation and restoration. What an interesting, useful, productive life we all can lead - and are leading in the presence of Love. Living in God's day can shape our daily affairs, so that we can say in the evening: What a good day this was---and see the infinite stretch of day also into the evening. No darkness is present in God's day, no gloominess can assert itself. For God's day is infinite... filling days, weeks, months... and even years. There is so much good unfolding for us and in us, and infinitely more is coming our way... Every day, every week, every month, every year. Have a good and useful 2021! Comments are closed.
