Our conversation with God continues, uninterrupted. As much as God's conversation with us never stops. To inspire us, to teach us, to broaden us - to inform us, relief us, calm us. God, Spirit, is upholding and sustaining us - and this tender relationship between Spirit and idea, God and man, is a real relationship, is a conversation. This ongoing, continuous conversation is because man is like the wind. Is like Spirit. In Greek wind and spirit are the same word. Jesus explains, as recorded in the gospel of John, the spiritual nature, the continuous, eternal being of all of us, with the image of the wind. He talks with Nicodemus about renewal and transformation at any point in our life-experience. And in order to drive home this insight into true individuality, not based on matter, not restricted by a body, by traditional limits, entirely outside a human, limited concept of life, Jesus says: "But the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised when I say, ‘You must all be born again.’ The wind blows where it wants to. You hear the sound it makes. But you can't tell where it comes from or where it is going. It is the same with everyone who is born through the Spirit.” Man is like the wind - "pneuma" in Greek means wind and spirit. You can't really see it, but you can feel the effect. It is immense, magnificent and strong. Substantial, fresh, always new, always in the present, always in the now, vital - real life, truly alive, upholding all life with amazing wisdom and might. Ideas are the real thing. The continuity of everyone's life in Spirit is as tangible as is the wind. Man is too important, too real, to fade away, to die. "Spirit is the life, substance, and continuity of all things. We tread on forces", writes Mary Baker Eddy in the Bible commentary Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. These thoughts came to me as I walked by the sea, outside the shores of Ahrenshoop on the peninsula Fischland/Darss a few days ago. It was a stormy day - the wind being powerful, persistent, almost too strong for me. But only almost. I was walking the shore and considering Germanwings 4U9525. And listening and making sure that I know, truly feel, that everyone is safe in Spirit. Man is continuous, man is like the wind. Comments are closed.
