...and the most rewarding part is stop believing into the reality and power of evil. What does it take to disbelief in evil entirely? What does it take to see this even if you stand in front of "tyrants thrones"?
My husband and I had an Afghan refugee over for tea the other day. For a few months now we are having the great privilege and honor of knowing students, teachers, social workers from Afghanistan who were targets of the Taliban and brought out of the country by the US-American Airforce and German Bundeswehr in a miraculous rescue mission. They were flown to Dubai first, then to Ramstein, the US-American Airbase in Germany. Many of those Afghans found themselves suddenly in a country to which they had previously no connections. So here they are, in Berlin, and we know twelve of them. We are in touch on a regular basis with all of them, but especially, on an even more regular basis, with one student. For safety reasons I will not mention her name. So here we are, my husband, her and me, sitting in a balcony in the beautiful sunshine, with a large kettle of green tea, and talking. She is sharing with us the latest news: That the Taliban continue to target her people, the Hazara. That her family and thousands of other families are in hiding. That bombs are exploding in their neighborhood. That the Taliban closed all schools now for girls - and that many girls are standing up and demonstrating within the country for the right to attend school. That she continues to teach remotely every day - about 1200 girls, perfecting her curriculum for them. That she has been offered a job as counsellor for a Human Rights Film Festival. We listened, and listened some more. Many of the news she was telling us are difficult to hear - and often words are failing. At a certain point, after a long moment of silence, my husband started to share from his heart that peace will come, that Truth always has the last word, that good is the higher law of God, the higher law of the universe, and that evil will never eventually win. This is so, because evil is an impersonal imposition, not a real entity in the form of whatever figure. The belief in evil as a person is the belief that needs to be laid aside. Only in movies is evil overcome by removing an individual - the real solution is not to give evil any power. The ultimate solution that will make everyone happy is the solution to see good having dominion and the country being owned by everyone in peace. That solution is based on Principle and therefore realistic. Success is guaranteed for everything that is based on Principle. All three of us promised to ourselves to base our prayers from now entirely on the utter nothingness of the claim of evil. We are not giving it a voice, a person, a place. We are not cooperating with evil, we are not folding before it nor tempted to assign continuity to it. We spent an entire hour with these deep truths. We shared with her all the food we had in the house (I mean, everything) and she is sharing it with the whole group. She later sent several texts of gratitude, especially underlining how our conversation opened up her heart for more hope for her country. We will speak soon over zoom again to monitor progress and see how everyone is doing. The hardest part is the right part. To stop believing in evil is God's will - and the result is peace, true peace, and satisfaction for all, on a global scale. It helps to remember that we go to the news for information, but for interpretation and the large picture we go to the Bible and spiritual texts. This powerful and beautiful poem by Mary Baker Eddy is more relevant today than ever. I wish everyone in Afghanistan, Ukraine, Syria, everyone in Europe, the US, China could read it and embrace it. The world will change immediately: “Satisfied” It matters not what be thy lot, / So Love doth guide; / For storm or shine, pure peace is thine, / Whate'er betide. And of these stones, or tyrants' thrones, / God able is / To raise up seed—in thought and deed— / To faithful His. Aye, darkling sense, arise, go hence! / Our God is good. / False fears are foes—truth tatters those, / When understood. Love looseth thee, and lifteth me, / Ayont hate's thrall: / There Life is light, and wisdom might, / And God is All. The centuries break, the earth-bound wake, / God's glorified! / Who doth His will—His likeness still— / Is satisfied. (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 160) Comments are closed.
