More than a good idea
You could say: "Gravity is a good idea." But you wouldn't, because gravity is not just a good idea. Gravity is a law.
You could say: "Loving your neighbor as ourselves is a good idea."
And then you open Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy on page 205 and you read: "When we realize that there is one Mind, the divine law of loving our neighbor as ourselves is unfolded; whereas a belief in many ruling minds hinders man's normal drift towards the one Mind, one God, and leads human thought into opposite channels where selfishness reigns."
I'm grateful to share that a fissure in a relationship was healed instantly and permanently after weeks of hurt and heartbreak by yielding to this law, instead of forcing myself into being loving. Acceptance that "loving our neighbor as ourselves" is already a law was enough. Love is the fundamental law in God's universe. Love is not just a good idea. Love is a law. So whether I like it or not - this law is, the law. And law by definition is: true (no repeatable contradicting observations), universal, simple, absolute (nothing affects it), stable, omnipotent (everything must comply with it), aiming at balance and symmetry.
Love is a law. Therefore we cannot debate or discuss this fact, try to negotiate or change it. We can start getting to know this law, how it operates, what rules result in this law, what it means for our experience to apply this law. And then live within its framework and support. Much as a hiker who understands the law of gravity can safely and joyfully cooperate with this law and climb up a steep mountain path until the peak is reached. Within law there is no escape possible - only compliance.
